Run For Alumni Class Officer

We are currently seeking candidates for the Class of 2008 Alumni Officer positions. Officers help plan reunions and work with the Alumni Association to keep the class connected to the Banks. They serve for a 5-year term.

Here are descriptions of the various positions as given by the Rutgers Alumni Association:

President

The class leader and initiator directs and coordinates the work of the other officers and makes appointment when a vacancy occurs. Calls meetings, appoints committees, approves expenditures and reports periodically to the members of his class. Acts as liaison with the Alumni Association.

Vice President

The President’s right hand and acts for him/her when he/she is unable to do so. Usually in charge of some class activities i.e. the class gift or other important class project.

Secretary

Keeps the records and is the hub of class activity. Works with the RAA to maintain an up-to-date class file, records class events. Sends out notices of dinners, reunions and meetings. Keeps the minutes. Keeps the Alumni office posted on address changes and other events of importance ion the live of classmates.

Treasurer

The custodian of all class funds. Approves expenditures jointly with the President. Obtains financial reports from the RAA and reports on them annually to the class.

Historian

Every class should maintain a record of its outstanding accomplishments. The Class Historian gathers and disseminates information about classmates; sources include the undergraduate publications, the Alumni office and class polls. Prepares class histories and cooperates with reunion committees in the preparation of souvenir reunion books.

Class Agent

The Class Agent conducts the annual campaign of the Rutgers Foundation among the members of the class. Works closely with the Associate Vice-President for Annual Giving at the Foundation. Directs the Class Gift Committee.

Class Correspondent

The Class Correspondent is responsible for preparing the class column for the Rutgers Alumni Magazine. Besides assimilating the class news collected and provided by the editor, the correspondent should develop ways of seeking additional information from members of the class, by using the help of key classmates or devising questionnaires.

Class Web-Editor

The Class Editor is responsible for preparing text and pictures for class web-page hosted by the Rutgers Alumni Association at www.rutgersalumni.org. The web editor should work closely with the class correspondent to develop ways of seeking information and pictures from members of the class.

Reunion Chairperson

The Reunion Chairperson conducts and directs class reunions. Reunions are one of the most cohesive forces for holding classes together and, when properly conducted, are a source of deep satisfaction and pleasure. The Reunion Chairperson should work closely with the Class Reunion Committee. The Committee should have representatives from colleges, fraternities and living groups. The chairpersons’ principal contact is the Director of the RAA.

Representative(S) To Alumni Council

The Representative(s) (1 per 300 alumni) to the Alumni Council should take it upon themselves to represent the class at the annual meeting of the Alumni Council. Representatives in public life make it a point to find out what their constituents think, and members of the Council should do the same. The Alumni Council is the governing body of the Rutgers Alumni Associates.

NOTE: Classes from 1990 on will have 6 or 7 Council members. The positions of Class Correspondent and Reunion Chair may be shared by more than one individual.
